THE ROLE OF THE EDITOR IN FEATURES, DOCS AND SERIES - Paul Mortimer

Paul Mortimer, who recently received the Rosie for Best Editor, Drama (The Secret of the Nutcracker) at the 2008 Alberta Motion Picture Industry Association awards dinner, will speak on his experiences in the role of editor in feature length films, documentaries, TV series and corporate video.

Paul's credits include episodes of numerous television series including North of Sixty and 2030CE; film credits including Escape from Mars and JetBoy; and documentaries including Cure for Love and the award-winning 24 Days in Brooks. Paul's experiences have lead him to play many different roles as editor; seen many different editing styles come, and go, and come back again; and he has worked across a range of tools and editing systems, though many recent projects have been cut in Final Cut Pro.

This will be a great opportunity to see some of Paul's work over the years, hear him speak about the process, and ask questions of an editor who has just about seen it all.

DOOR PRIZES

The first twelve (12) members through the door (remember the doors don't open until 1830) will receive a "special gift" from the Apple Company Store in Cupertino, California - that's right folks, a little something Apple branded straight from the Mothership itself!!! Guaranteed to have gotten closer to Steve Jobs than I managed to.

* MEETING SPACE

As you have probably noticed we are in our new meeting space on the fifth floor of the the U of C Bio Science building again this month. This offers us a larger space with seating for everyone.
