VOB file usually contains more than one audio and subtitle tracks that are multiplexed together into one stream form that not so easy to playback directly on PC or Mac let alone edit in NLEs. The users will find that once they are trying to import the VOB files to FCP, they just get the "gray out" result. In other words, FCP does not support VOB files natively. Thus, to edit VOB files in FCP, the users have to convert VOB files to FCP friendly format Apple ProRes MOV first.
